The first half of 2026 has been busy across the entire CANIX footprint. Rather than splitting this into one post per location as we usually do, we’re publishing a single consolidated update covering every site and the network-wide improvements that benefit all of our members.
Montréal

- Optical transport. We deployed new Ciena Waveserver platforms in the Montréal core, expanding our DWDM transport capacity and adding wavelengths to support continued growth between sites.
- CDN expansion. We brought up new 🍎 caches, adding locally-served content capacity for members.
- New routers and Google peering. New routers were deployed, with planning underway for Google VPP (Virtual Private Peering).
- Security hardening. Following a Layer 2 network event, we deployed new security policies to further harden the fabric against broadcast/loop and L2 anomalies.
- 100G leaf upgrade. A new 100G Nexus 9K leaf switch was installed at Cologix Montréal 3 in response to the growing number of members migrating from dual 10G ports to 100G.
- Timing services. The Montréal NTP servers were updated and now have NTS (Network Time Security) enabled for authenticated, tamper-resistant time.
Ottawa
- Microsoft MCC upgrade. The Microsoft MCC (Microsoft Connected Cache) server was upgraded, improving locally-cached Microsoft content delivery for Ottawa members.
New peers & port upgrades
Member growth continued strongly through the first half of the year, with several new connections and capacity upgrades:
Montréal
- LeaseWeb — upgraded from 20G to 100G
- IBM — new peer at 20G
- M247 — upgraded from 20G to 100G
- OVH — upgrading from 100G to 200G (in progress)
- Colba.Net — new connection at 10G
- Flex Networks — new connection at 10G
- Equinix Connect — new connection at 100G
Toronto
- OVH — deploying 100G (in progress)
- Flex Networks — new connection at 10G
Ottawa
- Flex Networks — new connection at 10G
- Cyberri — new connection at 10G
- Colocataires Inc. — new connection at 10G
We’re seeing strong adoption of 100G LR1 optics across these connections, which is excellent news for future capacity planning and gives us a clear path toward 400G compatibility.
Network-wide
These improvements apply across all four CANIX exchanges in Montréal, Ottawa, Québec City and Toronto:
- IXP Manager 7. We upgraded our member portal and IXP automation platform to IXP Manager version 7.
- Monitoring & alerting. We refreshed our monitoring and alerting policies and standardized port/interface descriptions network-wide for cleaner, more actionable telemetry.
- Redundant PTR stack. We deployed a new redundant PTR (reverse DNS) server stack for improved resilience and reliability.
We’ll continue to share more as these projects evolve through the rest of 2026. As always, thank you to our members and partners for helping us make the Internet better… Together.
